Wedding Photographer Fife, Birkhill Castle. Andy and Claire

Catching up on the blog, last Saturday took me to a beautiful location Birkhill Castle in Fife, the  ancestral home of the Earl and Countess of Dundee. I photograph a lot of Weddings here, it’s an ideal location for a small house party type Wedding.

The weather was really good for an outside Wedding, this is not great news for a photographer however as harsh strong sunlight make for hard shadows but on the positive side of the coin it does make everyone smile and be happy and that's more important for a Wedding surely?

Andy was a little nervous, one of the issues with a location like Birkhill and not having a Wedding planner is all the little things that you need to remember on the day, he had a lot on his mind!

Wedding Favour ideas, Scottish Wedding Favours

One of the great things about going to Wedding Shows (apart from meeting all you lovely customers) is that every now and then I stumble across an idea that is totally unique. This happened at the Fingask Show last Sunday when I found myself across the way from Niall at Sporran Keyrings.

This ideal just really appealed to me so I said I’d gladly put the information on my blog.

They are mini keyrings which can serve as favours on your big day, the really good bit is that they are very practical so people will definitely use them after the Wedding and as you can see in the photograph below they double as place name holders (just pretend that my business card is a place name card)

Pr photographer Scotland – Business Portrait Photography

A lot of my work is business portraiture for PR and Media companies and this job was no different – well actually it was. I had 1 hour to capture 5 different images of the new Global Sales Director of one of my clients. The job was booked through the PR Agency and they had commissioned the Dakota Hotel in Edinburgh for the job. To get a head start, I arrived about an hour before my client was due to find locations, set up equipment and prepare for his arrival.

The brief from the client was that this had to be a very strong business portrait, this is a very senior member of the team worldwide and the picture had to convey his position and responsibility:

This final shot was the lead shot in the company magazine. Dramatic side lighting conveys a sense of power.

Monachyle Mhor

A magazine asked me to supply images of the Chef and owner of Monachyle Mhor, a lovely hotel near Calendar. Tom Lewis is a real character, speaks really fast, laughs  a lot and manages to keep 5 conversations going at the same time. I wanted to try and bring that to the photograph but also create a sense of the landscape that he works in. He uses a lot of organic produce, in particular Venison which he shoots himself, guts himself and cooks himself so the landscape that provides him with his ingredients was important.

Glasgow Caledonian University – Postgraduate Prospectus Cover Shot

Glasgow Caledonian had to find a cover shot for their Postgrad prospectus, typically they had a pretty good brief and all we had to do was get the shot. The cover design was sketched out in advance so I knew that we needed a small group of students in the foreground with possibly another small group in the background. They wanted bold colours on the left hand side of the frame to push the viewers eye to the right. Knowing the campus well we chatted through the options and then settled on this area. It was a corridor with lots of light on 1 side making for a potentially unbalanced shot so it was necessary to use flash in very specific areas of the shot to bring a sense of balance back.

After a half day shoot we had a good bunch of potential shots in the bag but this was how the cover ended up

Angus College

Angus College needed some stock photography of their construction courses, there was no specific brief – just supply generic images for use in prospectuses and adverts. I spent a day working with the lecturers and students who were all great to work with.
